Tireless, Teaching, Videotapes
Richard C. Webster, MD, was so excited by the founding members’ proposed society that he eagerly joined with them to help in the amalgamation. Ultimately, his tireless work for and with the AAFPRS prompted his election as president. The situation with the general plastic surgeons was heating up; it was a major advantage to have a boarded plastic surgeon as president. Webster focused on improving the quality of teaching and on what other disciplines could bring to the Academy. He was instrumental in getting the San Diego Classics videotapes filmed.
Webster stated, “I have said to many of my friends…that I am happy to have lived long enough to see two major surgical specialties emerge. These are cosmetic surgery and facial plastic surgery. They overlap but are not the same. This Academy has had an enormous role to play in developing these two fields, and I am proud to have had a part in this history.”
