Portal, Campaign, Recognition
It was a tremendous honor for me to serve as president of our Academy. During my tenure, our Academy achieved a number of important milestones. These included upgrading our Web site and implementing the new LEARN portal; recruiting and retaining key personnel for the Academy’s office; completing the capital campaign successfully, surpassing our goal of $4 million; improving and advancing interspecialty relations with the first-ever published op-ed piece co-written with the presidents of ASAPS and AAFPRS clarifying our position of mutual respect and collegiality, while emphasizing appropriate recognition for the specialty of facial plastic surgery and our full and legitimate scope of practice; and, under the direction of the Foundation Board of Directors and with the support of our fellowship directors, pursuing an ACGME pathway in “facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.”
Establishment of this pathway, with the inclusion of ABFPRS as an integral component, will further affirm our competence and expertise in facial plastic surgery, and help gain greater recognition for all facial plastic surgeons for generations to come.
