EBM, Collaboration, Campaign
My goals as president of the AAFPRS included 1) improving facial plastic surgery research; 2) positioning our Academy to become more active in humanitarian activities; 3) improving collaboration with other plastic surgery specialty societies; and 4) improving our Academy’s financial stability.
In order to accomplish the goal of improving research, an Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) Committee was established, under the able leadership of chair Peter Hilger, MD, with the overall goal to integrate EBM into the collective Academy culture. Improved relationships with the leadership of ASAPS resulted in collaboration on multiple projects, including the Physicians Aesthetic Coalition (PAC) and the injectable safety coalition (PCIS). Lastly, and most importantly, the capital campaign was established during my presidential year; and, due to the efforts of many devoted AAFPRS members, we received pledges of $4.1 million. The proceeds of the campaign have provided funds to upgrade our educational programs, allow evidenced-based research within the AAFPRS to improve patient outcomes and safety, and to advance our humanitarian programs (FACE TO FACE). Thank you to all AAFPRS members for helping with my vision for the Academy.
